Day 20 Castet-Arrouy

Thursday 6th October and my planned stop is just after the larger village of Miradoux. "Where are you staying tonight?" is a common question and I usually have to say that I don't know, so this morning I prepare my reply. "Just after Miradoux".

After dinner last night which I shared with my hosts the husband wouldn't let me leave the room until he had come round the table and stood next to me to compare heights. It was just like being back in primary school.

Today I see more signs of wild boar ploughing up a field. The deterent here is a 40 litre oil drum with a radio inside blaring out music.

Walking into the first town a couple are walking in the opposite direction and I help them by turning them around and letting them climb back up the steep hill. I really don't know how they could descend the hill they climbed up the previous night.

I am in the department of Gers now and the route signage has changed ever so slightly. Still white over red but the black background and white strap line on the bottom make them appear confusing.

I sit down in Miradoux with a few pilgrims who are having lunch and enjoy my own picnic. Cloe walks by then I see John who is back in his group of four campers. It is good to enjoy the solitude then have some brief company, especially as today included lots of country lanes through arable land.

I check into my gite d'étape at 3pm so I have chance for a relaxed shower, rest and study of the guidebook before being spooked by the couple in the garden. Just bizarre.
